Fake Auto News
I’ll never understand why people get their news from memes. Memes almost always have wrong information. I’ve seen several different memes declaring that automobile companies are moving back to the US in response to Trump’s tariffs. Every one of those memes is wrong.
The meme above was first posted on the Facebook page of America’s Last Line Of Defense
The disclaimer for that page says: The flagship of the ALLOD network of trollery and propaganda for cash. Nothing on this page is real.. You can see their logo on the meme. The meme included a link to their website with the fake article. The disclaimer for that page says: Dunning-Kruger-Times.com is a subsidiary of the “America’s Last Line Of Defense” network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery, or as Snopes called it before they lost their war on satire: Junk News. If the phrase “Dunning-Kruger” in the website name doesn’t tip you off that the site is parody, I don’t know what will.
Several memes going around give lists of car companies that are supposedly moving factories back to the US because of Trump. One of those mentioned is Honda. But several weeks ago when Trump first announced that Honda was building a new plant in Indiana, Honda immediately responded that they never said any such thing. They already have a plant in Indiana, and they had no plans to build another.
Another one mentioned in memes is Stellantis (maker of Ram trucks and Jeeps). No, they are NOT building new plants here. Their response to the tariffs is to cut back production and lay off 900 workers
For your edification, here is a list of foreign auto manufacturers with plants in US
