Hurricane Helene Hoaxes

I wanted to write a post debunking all the conspiracies but there are so many, it’s impossible. So I’ll just make a few brief points.

Authorities are keeping rescuers out of affected areas It is true that restrictions had to be imposed in some of the more accessible towns due to two reasons: [1] They had to run looters out and they are trying to keep those from coming back, and [2] Conditions are dangerous and they’re trying to make sure experienced (and legit) relief teams only are going in..

Helicopter woes: It’s apparently true that a Fire Chief prevented a pilot from his rescue efforts. I haven’t confirmed it, but I read that Fire Chief was suspended or fired from his position because of that.

Rumors are also being spread around that helicopters aren’t allowed in. Actually, there are HUNDREDS of helicopters engaging in rescue and relief operations. In some places, authorities are telling unauthorized civilian pilots that they can’t fly in. “Leave your supplies in our staging area and we’ll take it from there”. In other areas, they are letting them in, but there are so many of them, that flights have to be coordinated so that no air collisions occur. Some will be flying, while others are waiting their turn.

The North Carolina State Police announced that they will arrest federal officials who hinder relief efforts. There is no North Carolina State Police. The North Carolina Highway Patrol is the closest thing to that, and they said they certainly gave no such order and wouldn’t have the authority to do so anyhow.

Trump said Biden and Kamala are doing nothing to help and haven’t even bothered to visit the area. He also said Republican areas are being denied Federal Aid. Both of those statements are outright lies. And what the heck is a “Republican area” anyhow?

There are so many more, I just can’t cover them all. So I’ll close with this: If Trump and/or Elon and/or far right wingers said it, it’s probably either completely false, or a grain of truth has been twisted out of all factuality.
