Kamala and Netflix and Things

Nothing to see here – just the usual Trump and his supporters spreading false information without ever checking the facts.

I want to point out I’m politically in the middle leaning right. That means I don’t automatically support Kamala. She’s done some things I find admirable, but in some things she’s further left than I’m comfortable with. Interestingly, some Democrats feel that she’s not liberal enough. Of course, those on the far right think she’s too liberal. How she would pan out as a President remains to be seen, assuming she’s elected.

I’m for truth, and I want to combat the moronic memes and rumors flying around social media.

Harris can’t be African American because her father isn’t dark enough

Foolish people. Have you never been around people of color? The image shows Donald J. Harris as a young man compared to now. He had a white parent and a black parent, making him biracial.

It is very common for people of color, whether or not they’re biracial, to develop a lighter skin tone as they age. In my experience, this is especially dramatically illustrated amongst Hispanics. Some of the children are so dark, you could mistake them as black or biracial. But by the time they’re 40 or 50 or 60 years old, they’re so light they could easily pass as Caucasian.

And before you make any comments about Jamaicans not being Americans and therefore not African American, well, they are. Jamaica is in the Americas.

Harris must be a Marxist due to the questionable activities of her parents and her own associations.

To begin with, I learned early in life to never judge people by their parents. I’ve seen good people come out of bad families, and bad people come out of good families. If my upbringing dictated the person I became, I would be a horrible person.

Some of her supposed associations, whether men she dated in the past, or otherwise, either never happened, have been grossly exaggerated, or there is no evidence that the people in question have Marxist leanings. Nothing that Harris has said or done reflects Marxism.

Harris is married to a Jew. She’s also a member of the Third Baptist Church in San Francisco, although that in itself doesn’t necessarily mean anything. An awful lot of people on social media who claim to be Christian sure don’t act like it. I’m not inside Kamala’s head so I can’t judge her Christianity.

Kamala can’t be a good president because she has no children

Good grief. Besides her step children speaking highly of her as a mother, the following presidents had no children: George Washington, James Madison, Andrew Jackson, James Polk and James Buchanan. James Buchanan never even married. The only child Warren Harding fathered was an illegitimate daughter he never publicly acknowledged.

Kamala was a terrible District Attorney because Trump said so

Here is a very incomplete list of her accomplishments as DA:

• She cleared 27 of 74 backlogged homicide cases in her first 6 months
• She secured 36 convictions of 49 violent crime cases.
• Overall, she achieved an 87-percent conviction rate for homicides
• She achieved two of the largest recoveries in California’s history over excess state Medi-Cal and federal Medicare payments.
• She obtained better terms in the National Mortgage Settlement against the nation’s five largest mortgage servicers.
• She helped introduce the Homeowner Bill of Rights, protecting homeowners against aggressive foreclosure tactics.

I’ll stop there, but you get the idea.

Kamala and Biden are responsible for more illegal border crossings

Well, let’s see. Crossings are down since Biden issued an executive order banning most migrants from asylum. Harris’s assignment was to determine the root cause of asylum-seeking from South America, but she was never in charge of the border itself. She has worked to encourage private industry to invest more in the countries the immigrants are coming from. If they’ll do that, increased opportunities will keep workers in their home countries. I agree Kamala hasn’t done as much in that area as she should, but she’s not responsible for increased illegal immigration.

A Meme said it so it must be true

Netflix did no such thing. In fact, Netflix hasn’t made ANY political donations in at least the last several years.

Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings stepped down from his CEO position at Netflix last year. He recently told reporters he donated $7M of his personal money to Republican Accountability PAC. This is an organization of Republicans who oppose Trump. From those remarks that Hastings made to the press, Trumpers have spread the false information and made Netflix the bad guys, even though Netflix has no connection to that donation.

This garbled “quote” is attributed to Kamala

Of course she never said it.

The quote originated from this woman who was impersonating Harris. She uploaded that video on July 4.

She’s being slammed as a descendent of a slave owner

Hamilton Brown was indeed a slave owner. And he was white. There’s no proof whether he was or wasn’t an ancestor of Kamala.

The black residents of Jamaica are descended from slaves who were owned by Hamilton Brown and other plantation owners. If Kamala is a descendent of Hamilton Brown (or any other white slave owner), then it’s because he raped one of his slaves, who produced a child who would have become an ancestor of Kamala.

Almost all descendants of black slaves have white blood that came about due to rape. Kamala would be no exception. Why is it somehow Kamala’s fault that her paternal line came about due to rape? People who are lambasting Kamala in this matter are parroting Trump’s racism.

I don’t want to spend all day on this post, so I’ll quickly touch on a few accusations going around.

Did Kamala say, “Our Support for Israel Will Continue”? She hasn’t said those particular words. She has advocated for a cease fire, and she has stated more humanitarian aid for Gaza is needed.

Trump supporters gleefully proclaim that Kamala Harris failed the California bar exam on her first attempt. It’s true. She did. But half the people who take the California bar exam fail on their first attempt. Kamala doesn’t even try to hide it or downplay it, because it’s nothing to be ashamed of.

The image of a check is circulating claiming that Trump donated $5,000 to Harris‘ reelection campaign for California A.G. Hey, how about that, he did! The check image may or may not be real, but the donation really happened.

There’s so much more, but I’m done. All I’ll say in closing is, before you share damaging memes about Kamala, do some research and see if they’re real. They probably aren’t.
