The George Washington Quarter

Will people ever learn that just because a meme says it, it’s not automatically true?

Variations of this are going all over the internet.

Learn the Real Story

In 1932, Congress decided to replace Lady Liberty’s image with George Washington on the US quarter. Several sculptors submitted designs, including one by artist Laura Gardin Fraser. The following is Laura and her submission:

But John Flanagan’s design was chosen instead.

Over the next several decades, sometimes Washington faced the phrase in question, and sometimes not. I don’t remember ever hearing any objection to where “In God We Trust” was positioned.

In 2020. the U.S. Mint announced the American Women Quarters Program. Beginning in 2022, and continuing through 2025, the U.S. Mint will be issuing up to five new reverse designs each year. These are images of American women who have made accomplishments and contributions to society.

There was no question about it. The image designed by a woman in 1932 must be on the obverse side. So Laura Gardin Fraser’s design was chosen.

A man’s design just won’t do when women are being honored.

Stop sharing memes that get people all up in arms without doing research first. That’s how hoaxes and false conspiracies get spread.

I have no idea what you’re on about. The new quarter series was decided on while Trump was still in office, and anyhow, presidents don’t decide on how money gets designed.
The American Women Quarters Program is for honoring women of all ethnic groups, and dissing it makes you sound racist and misogynistic.
