2026 Shooting at White House Correspondents Dinner

I do not readily accept conspiracy theories, but the social media wires are sizzling with questions about this latest assassination attempt, many asserting it was faked.

After years of refusing to attend the White House Correspondents’ Association annual dinner, Trump suddenly makes a big deal that he’s going to go. This does seem like some odd timing.

Soon after the incident, Trump used the opportunity to reiterate the need for a White House ballroom. Some say the “fake” assassination attempt was purposely planned in order to gain support for that ballroom. I don’t know about that. Trump uses every opportunity to promote his ballroom.

Many are pointing out all the MAGA personalities who echoed that rallying cry for the ballroom, as though that’s supposed to reinforce the notion that the incident was staged. That’s ridiculous. They’re just parroting Trump like they do with everything Trump says.

A video is going viral, in which Karoline Leavitt remarked to a FOX News reporter that “There will be some shots fired tonight”. This interview took place a few hours before the dinner.

But here’s the thing: Karoline is gullible, and not very bright in many ways, but she’s cunning. She would not have been stupid enough to reveal in advance a staged “assassination”, assuming she had been privy to such a plan in the first place.

A little googling, and I learned that the phrase “shots fired” is a common idiom used to describe a speech that “roasts” political opponents and media members. Indeed, a roast had been planned for weeks before the event.

I’m convinced that it was pure coincidence that Karoline used that phrase before the dinner. So mark that one off as proof that it was a prearranged fake incident.

This is another viral image. It appears to show Trump smirking just as the shooting started, ostensibly proving that he was pleased that the planned assassination attempt had begun.

I don’t think that’s it. Trump is in cognitive decline, and it probably took several moments to comprehend what was happening. He was just slow to catch on.

Below is the shooter, 31 year old Cole Tomas Allen, who had traveled via train from Los Angeles to Chicago, and then on to D.C. Apparently, Allen had indicated to his family that he was planning violence against political figures, and his brother had contacted police. (Details are fuzzy, and I haven’t heard if the police acted on the tip).

It’s important to note that the crowd in the ballroom was never in danger. Not Trump, not the First Lady, and not anyone else who was there.

The suspect began exchanging gunfire with the Secret Service agents in the lobby of the hotel. He then attempted to reach the door to the ballroom but never got that far before being subdued by agents.

The president and the other officials were rushed from the stage strictly as a security precaution.

So, was it a planned incident? I can’t rule that out 100%, but I’m reasonably certain it was not.
