Irreducible complexity: A concept used by proponents of Intelligent Design and Young Earth Creationism (YEC) to argue that complex organisms could not have evolved gradually from more primitive forms, because they need all their interacting parts to function. If you remove one part, the other parts will cease to function. Therefore, the organism could not have started with fewer parts. It needs all parts all at once in order to function. Who doesn’t love dinosaurs? My introduction to them came when my mother bought me a set of children’s encyclopedias. Maybe I was around four years old? I fell in love! Then, when I started to school, the library had books on dinosaurs. I was in heaven! Many decades later the internet came along. This is an introduction to a series of posts I’ll be writing about conspiracy theories and science deniers. Before I begin, I have a couple of opening remarks: [1] Some people use religion (usually the Bible), to “prove” their points. I will be using religion to answer these arguments. Medical Conspiracy Theories
One of the favorite targets of conspiracy theorists and science deniers is the field of medicine. So reject medicine and go back to the way it was before real science became involved. Enjoy bloodletting, foul concoctions being administered via enema, high death rates during birth (for mothers and babies), no washing of hands or instruments between patients. Compound fractures were too complicated to set, so your arm or leg was removed with a meat saw and no anesthetic. During recovery, there was a very high chance of dying from the ensuing infection.
